Who We Are – The Story Behind Checkered Design
My name is Douglas Vieira, I’m 27 years old, and I’m the founder of Checkered Design.
Bikes have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Brazil, where my parents owned a bike shop. That shop was more than just a business – it was my playground, my school, and the place where my passion for riding really started. From a very young age, I was always on a downhill or mountain bike, riding every chance I got.
From Brazil to the UK – Chasing the Dream
In 2014, my family made a big decision: We moved from Brazil to the UK to chase the dream of becoming a professional rider. The MTB and downhill scene in Europe opened my eyes even more – different tracks, different styles, and a strong racing culture that pushed me to grow as a rider.
Racing has always been part of my life. My brother, Roger Vieira, is a professional rider racing for the Pivot Factory Team, and seeing him compete at the highest level has been a constant source of inspiration for me.
My dream for a Worldcup team spot is still alive and in the meantime, I am working on my passion for racing, design, and performance.
How the Idea for Checkered Design Was Born
While racing and riding, I noticed something was missing. Riders wanted custom jerseys that didn’t just look good, but also fit properly, perform on the bike, and represent their personal style, sponsors, and names – without compromise.
That’s how Checkered Design was born.
I founded the brand to create custom MX jerseys and custom MTB jerseys specifically for racers and riders who want:
